This is a guest blog post by Brandon Ancier, who works on Marketing at Tint, a social media aggregation platform that lets brands display any social feeds on their websites, mobile apps, TV displays, and event walls.
The advent of social media and the decreasing costs of digital displays/screens have led to a flurry of new opportunities for event organizers to actively engage audiences DURING their events. These displays can be used in any public forum from conventions to office discussions. Event planners have started to use social media engagement strategies to provide attendees with an awesome way to interact at their events. Working at Tint, I've seen brands use social displays on TV monitors and projectors to display the event’s official Facebook feed, the speaker’s Twitter feed, the sponsor’s Instagram photos, or even tweets/photos your attendees are sharing via hashtags you specify. Social media displays are the leading way to get your audiences talking and sharing more about your event (which means more free PR)!
1) Display User-Generated Content via Hashtags
Hashtags are a powerful way to allow your audiences to easily share content from their chosen social network. Simply create a unique hashtag catered for the event and whenever an attendee uses it their post will automatically stream into the event wall/TV screen/jumbotron. This gives everyone the chance for their 15 seconds of fame on the big screen-- the faces on people who see their post on your screen is either excitement or thrill. Don't be surprised when they tell others that their posts got on the big screen and convince others to join in the conversation as well. That's when a flurry of posts ensues around your event, creating free PR with your hashtag and collecting quality content for future promotion.
2) Highlight Branded Content
Social media displays can engage your audiences and maximize the lifetime and reach of all your branded social media content via TV displays around the venue. Just showcase your FB page, Twitter feed, Instagram, etc. and your attendees will never miss an update while walking around the event. Share announcements, prize winners, next speaker in line, etc... you get the idea.
3) Showcase Sponsor’s Content
Sponsors are asking for new ways to stand out and get in the face of attendees...so give them a new way to do so. Offer them a TV display or projector of all their Facebook posts, tweets, Instagram photos, Youtube videos, and much more through a social media display. Guaranteed increase in impressions because social media displays contain more engaging and interactive content!
4) Display Speakers’ Posts
So you got some top notch speakers lined up for your vent? You can add all your speakers twitter accounts to your social media display. Your audience will constantly be engaged by your your speakers tweets and your speakers will thank you as their social media accounts are exposed to thousands of attendees, which means more followers for them.
5) Industry Buzz
You don't only need to display content from speakers and attendees, you can also connect ANY industry related feeds. Watch as your audiences hang out in in front of the social media display screens watching the content stream in because they now have something dynamic to look at. It's sure beats staring at your phone!
6) Run a Social Display for Q&A
The old fashion method of raising your hand to ask a question sure gets difficult when you are engaging 1,000's of attendees. Events are now enabling audiences to participate without the hassle of microphones by using a Social Q&A Display. Simply tell them to tweet with your hashtag or @mention you on Twitter with their question. It 's then easy to display just the best questions on the the big screen with your social media display. Again, lots of great free PR from all the audiences tweeting questions with your hashtag.
